Firewind: Forged in fire

09/02/05  ||  Lord K Philipson

As I said in Audio Autopsy where these guys were featured, by playing power metal I should tear these fucko’s a new asshole. Or something to that extent. Well, they do deserve that treatment, but not as much as many other bands do. You have to bear in mind they play power metal, can’t be too fucken tough on them then… They might start to cry.

Sometime these warriors of steel hand out some decent heavy riffage, which I’m not late to applaud. It’s actually quite catchy at (very few) times as well. But for fuck’s sake, do not get me wrong… I’m not a fan of this kind of music, and I never will be. Power metal is cheesy as fuck, and cheese has nothing to do with metal last time I checked. I can imagine this album actually being capable of shipping a few copies though, thanx to a few reasons:

1. The disc was mixed at the famous Studio Fredman. Wow, that will definitely sell albums, right? Sadly enough, it prolly will.

2. “Young guitar-virtuoso” Gus G (Nightrage/Mystic Prophecy/Dream Evil) is the brainchild of this band. I smell a platina-selling album with that fact alone. Right?

3. James Murphy did a solo on “The forgotten memory”. Astonishing, right? That’s a selling-point right there if I ever saw one. And believe me, I see selling-points everywhere.

All irony apart (haha, no fucken way), Firewind is a piece if power metal bullshit and the vocalist Chity (Hahahahaha.. someone kill me now! What WAS his name again?) sings with an ever-so disgusting lisp here and there. This is definitely bound to be a huge hit in the metal-scene. If not for the music, having a vocalist named Chity should do it alone.

” – Hello, I am Chity, vocalist of Firepenis”
” – Actually, I have heard worse. And better for that matter”
” – No, seriously, I am Chity”
” – If you say so. Can I be Pissy?”

That’s the funniest shit I have seen in quite some time.

The problem with power metal is that it lacks exactly what it’s called. “Power”. We have metal-ballads with disgusting sing-a-long choruses (” I’m a heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeero”, go fuck yourself), double-bass of course, very skillfully played guitar-solos (remember he’s a “young guitar-virtuoso”) and a hella lot of crap-music on this CeeDee. You know what power metal sounds like, this is no exception people. If it’s power metal it’s bound to suck massive ding-dong. And it does.

But at least the sound is good.

3/10
